Vision

Inspiring community well-being.

Mission

To leverage community partnerships to prevent and reduce alcohol and other drug use among youth and reduce substance abuse in the community.

History

In 2007, staff members from the Trauma Department at North Memorial Health noticed a developing trend in the number of young patients being seen at the hospital with alcohol-related injuries. Not only was the number of patients increasing, so was the average blood alcohol content level (BAC) of these patients. More injured kids had been drinking alcohol than ever before, and the average BAC for patients age 18 and younger was 0.12.

Realizing that youth substance use in northwest Hennepin County truly was a community issue and that no one entity could successfully tackle the problem alone, a series of town hall meetings were held in the spring of 2007 to discuss the issue. The outcome of those meetings was the creation of Partnership for Change. In October of 2008 and 2014, North Memorial Medical Center received a federal Drug Free Communities grant to support the efforts of Partnership for Change. From 2012 – 2015, Partnership for Change was also supported by a Strategic Prevention Framework-State Incentive Grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
