Marijuana Educational Event – Brainstorming

At the previous coalition meeting, it was suggested that there be further discussion with PFC members surrounding the April marijuana educational event. The purpose of the event is to educate our community decision-makers about the harmful effects of marijuana, how to prevent youth access, and how to advocate for our community’s health. Attendees participated in a group discussion surrounding:

  • Target audience: school boards members, legislative members, city Mayors and administrators, Hennepin County Sheriff, local business owners
  • Funding/sponsorships: Current include an anonymous donation and current grant from both PFC and Partners in Prevention, other may be from local corporations and law enforcement
  • Marketing: send out “save the dates” ahead of time, message of joining the conversation or it’s time to talk, need media to cover event, registration link, sit down with potential attendees to discuss purpose of event and our desire to have them attend, offer CEs, marketing materials at event may include highlights/objectives of the event and speaker bios
  • Content: effects of legalization on CO and DC, impacts of legalization on local businesses, hospitals, schools, etc., history of marijuana, local data or landscape, clinical and personal impact, perception of harm, common myths

ACTION ITEM: Planning committee will begin developing marketing materials. Contact Amber if interested in helping. We will continue discussion on the event during coalition and committee meetings.
